Design a Room on a Small Budget

Design a Room on a Small Budget

by Linden Walhard

Doing the interior design on your own home can be great fun, plus if you do it properly you can add value your home. When most people start an interior decoration project what they do is just jump straight in and start. Most people change to pay enough attention to the planning phase. They simply take a look around their home, decide what needs doing and do it.

You really need to plan before starting any project, saying that you want to take a surround down is fine, but how will you do it? Is it a load bearing wall? You need to plan to cover all of these possibilities. Just because professionals can complete amazing rooms in a single hour on TV it doesn’t mean that you can do the same thing at your home.

If you do interior design badly then it can cost a lot of money to place right, if you do it very badly then it can cost even more than the supplies cost you in the first place. It’s important to do it right so that you don’t get discouraged.

Fortunately interior design doesn’t have to be that expensive, especially if you are healthy to spend time and plan it properly. There are many ways that you can design your room without spending a fortune.

The first thing to realize is that not only big changes will make a difference. Even very small changes can change the overall look of the room quite dramatically. If you don’t know what to do to make your room look different then why not try doing some simple things before you go overboard. Just try moving the furniture around, the placement of furniture can make your room look big or small.

You could also add the illusion of space by adding some extra mirrors on the wall. Decorative mirrors can normally be stuck on the surround so you don’t have to worry about any holes. You can also change the curtains so that you can allow more light in. All of these things may seem tiny, however they will make a huge difference.

A lick of paint

Paint is evenhandedly cheap but makes a lot of difference to a room, a new color on the surround will make your room look completely different. If you wanted you could even choose the type of paint which is cushy to clean, this is a godsend for those of you with children! To choose colors visit your local DIY store and get some sample color swatches.

You shouldn’t try experimenting with your walls, you should try to decide what you are going to do using your samples. Just try out several things in your mind, you don’t know what it will look like before you try it out with a sample. Planning is vital for the success of your project.

Interior design projects can be very intimidating, but if you plan you can take some of this worry and stress out of them.
