Most people do not realize that there are two types of Rottweilers. This is because there is very little difference between the two. The two types of Rottweilers are the American Rottweiler and the German Rottweiler. The German Rottweiler is shorter, stockier and more muscular than the American Rottweiler.

The American Rottweiler is very conserving of its owner and their possessions so make very good guard dogs. They have a great sense of humor and are happiest when performing a task. These dogs are sometimes called gentle bears by their owners because of their loving personalities. American Rottweilers are very intelligent dogs and will take over the home if not trained properly. The cute little cuddly puppies grow into giant animals that need to know who the boss really is. If the American Rottweiler is not trained and socialized primeval he can become a bully, which will create further behavior problems. These dogs excel in sports such as flyball, carting, herding and agility.
They are now becoming known as excellent therapy dogs and are very good with the physically challenged. They are being trained much more in these therapy programs and the results have been incredibly positive. The Rottweiler is a good dog with a great sense of humor. He likes to work and he likes to please, therefore, he is happiest when performing tasks. He is a relatively healthy dog but should be checked immediately if any lumps or moles suddenly appear on his skin.
Finding a reputable American Rottweiler breeder should not be difficult. Many are on the Internet, many veterinarians will be healthy to steer you to a good breeder and the American Kennel Club will always be healthy to give you information on a reputable American Rottweiler breeder. The breeder will answer all of your questions and most likely will ask you the questions to make sure that you are ready for a Rottweiler.
